Principal's Welcome
We in St. Mary’s College pride ourselves on being a caring and respectful school where each student is given the opportunity to maximise their own individual potential. In the past people spoke of the 3 Rs in education, reading writing and arithmetic. Without doubt they are still the core elements in all the subjects we teach but there are another 3 R’s that we here in St. Marys place equal value on. They are Respect, Responsibility and Resilience. Seeing our young people grow into respectful, responsible and resilient young people is our aim. We do this helping them develop strong values while nurturing their emotional ,physical and spiritual growth. We instil in our students an appreciation of and respect for their own wellbeing and the wellbeing of others.
In St.Mary’s College we have a fantastic staff that dedicate themselves to the promotion of high standards. St. Mary’s College offers a broad range of subjects at Junior and Senior Cycle. The excellent results that our students achieve shows that as a school we have the capacity to maintain a high academic standard while encouraging and facilitating students to grow in other areas of their lives.
St. Mary’s College caters for students from a broad spectrum of gifts and abilities. We as a school work with all the partners in education (parents, student and teachers) in working towards the best plan and outcome for each individual student. Many of our students’ progress to third level universities and colleges while others are prepared for apprenticeship programmes or the world of work.
Our Transition Year programme gives our students a wonderful opportunity to sample and experience new subjects, take part in work experience and get involved in community-based events. We believe this extra year gives our students time and room to develop and mature. This usually results in wiser decision making at senior cycle level.
I am confident that as you look through our website you will get a strong sense of a small, caring and happy school with a great emphasis on personal development. I hope you get a flavour of life in our school and an insight into the wide variety of opportunities that are available to the students of St. Marys. It would be impossible for me to elaborate here on all the experiences and events that go on in our school but hopefully by browsing on our website and following our Facebook page you will get the sense of a happy, caring and inclusive school community with respectful, responsible and resilient students.
