Following on from a meeting with the Department of Education, the decision was made to introduce Physical Education as a Leaving Certificate subject starting September 2024.

The introduction of PE allows to broaden our curriculum and gives our students in St. Marysthe opportunity to study a newly developed subject at LC level.

The following points outline the key learning skills attached to the PE syllabus:

• Learning and improving skill and technique in sport.
• Physical and psychological demands of performance in sport.
• Structures, strategies, roles and conventions.
• Planning for optimum performance.
• Promotion of physical activity.
• Ethics and fair play in sport.
• Physical activity and inclusive.
• Technology and media & sport.

As you can see from the above text the learning is very broad and can be applied to any sport or indeed any aspect of life. The importance of wellbeing and activity is a critical aspect of the PE syllabus and the course is developed for enjoyment with a practical element to enhance the learning.

If anyone needs any further information please free to contact the school.
