Over the last number of weeks , girls from 1st year to TY have been afforded the opportunity to take part in surfing lessons.
Making Waves is a HER MOVES programme delivered by Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership in partnership with Rebelle Surf School based in Strandhill. HER MOVES is an initiative to get more girls participating in sport and physical activities -as countless studies have shown the phenomenal female drop out rate in sport and activity in teenage years.
Rebelle Surf- This female team of instructors have been leading our girls in surf lessons in a fun , friendly , non judgemental environment. They are participating in 5 lessons over the course of 4 weeks.
Our girls have been enjoying the lessons immensely , highlighting the importance that physical activity goes beyond team sports – we hope that the girls have made life long memories from this and are encouraged to continue surfing or get involved in more physical activities that are outside the team sport norms – to find an activity that is suited for them!
Big thank you to our teachers (Ms Keenehan, Ms Regan, Ms Giblin and Ms Scanlon) for giving up their free time outside of school hours to accompany the students to the lessons, making this opportunity possible.
